Guy Smith Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon
Mr Smith qualified in 1995 and has the following clinical interests:-
- Lens implants
- Vision correction
- PRELEX (Presbyopic Lens Exchange)
- Glaucoma – diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment
- Royal College of Ophthalmologists
- British Society of Refractive Surgeons
- European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons
- American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery
- American Academy of Ophthalmologists
Mr Smith received his medical qualification from St Thomas’ Hospital in London with a first class degree in Neurosciences and honours in Surgery.
After six months of Neurosurgery he began his ophthalmic training. His registrar training was based at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London, England. Mr Smith carried out a fellowship in Refractive surgery and anterior segment surgery at Moorfields Eye Hospital. This specialist area focused on advanced surgical techniques to obtain the best possible results for cataract surgery and laser correction for long and short sight.
He was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with sub-speciality interests in glaucoma, cataract and corneo-refractive surgery. Mr Smith also works as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Ridgeway Hospital and Wiltshire Clinic.
Mr Smith has a specialist interest in cataract surgery and refractive lens exchange surgery and has performed in excess of 3500 procedures. He offers lens exchange and implantation procedures to correct short sight, long sight, astigmatism and presbyopia. He has numerous research papers published in the medical literature and has presented his work at scientific conferences in the UK, Europe and USA.
Mr Smith is on the specialist register as an Ophthalmologist and has full registration with the General Medical Council.
