Venkat Satish Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr.Satish undertook his undergraduate training in Bangalore, India and then his initial Orthopaedic training at a premier institute in North India. He came to the UK in late 1993 and did his Specialist Registrar training in Glasgow, Leicester and Oxford . At Leicester he undertook a clinical knee fellowship and then completed advanced training in knee reconstruction at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford. In 2000, he joined the Royal Air Force and underwent Officer training at the RAF College, Cranwell. He spent three years as a Honorary Orthopaedic Consultant at Peterborough Hospitals NHS Trust, reaching the rank of Wing Commander. He served in Bosnia and Iraq during the 5 years in uniform on a Short Service Commission.

Venkat took up his current post of Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon in Swindon in June 2005. He performs surgical treatments for all knee conditions including total and unicompartmental knee replacement, keyhole surgery (arthroscopy), cruciate ligament reconstruction, revision knee replacement, osteotomy, meniscal repair, patellar stabilisation and patello-femoral replacement. He has a special interest in computer navigated knee replacement, having introduced it to Swindon and using it in many complex cases. He offers patient tailored options in knee replacement that include use of minimally invasive surgery, uncemented and mobile bearing prosthesis. He also has a special interest in treating cartilage problems within the knee and has been a participating surgeon in the ACTIVE trial which is a multi-centre long term prospective trial evaluating different techniques of repair and reconstruction. His military experience gave him a very varied experience in the management of complex trauma and sports injuries of the lower limb.

From a patient 4 years after total knee replacement

"Thought I would give you a little update on mobility. In March went to Nepal, and six of us did 10 day trek, walking 6-7 hours most days, covered 100km and up and down 7000m. Got up to 4500m, not quite Everest, but so pleased to be able to do it"
